If you’re anything like us here at LevitateCBD you may have a few, or maybe more than a few, questions about CBD and its uses. With today's blog let’s dig in and see what the facts are with CBD!
Firstly, the biggest misunderstanding about CBD seems to be that most people think it contains the psychoactive ingredient of THC. As it turns out that’s just not true. Not only does CBD not contain any THC or any compounds that would give you the classic “high” feeling but it’s not even derived from the same marijuana plant. It’s actually sourced from hemp, marijuana's close cousin.
Harvard.edu also tells us this; According to a report from the World Health Organization, "In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."
So, now that we know we won’t be getting unwillingly addicted to CBD what can we use it for?
It turns out a whole lot! While most people by this point have a vague understanding that it’s used for topical pain relief, the benefits are much further reaching. Some of the strongest evidence in its effectiveness is for treating various forms of childhood epilepsy, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), both of which usually don't respond to anti-seizure medications. In multiple studies, CBD was able to reduce the frequency of seizures and in some cases outright stop them. Pretty good for an all-natural plant.
CBD has also been shown to be effective in treating anxiety, which we all seem to have now (thanks to COVID!), insomnia (thanks to social media!), inflammation (ok this one is my own fault!), and even helps with addiction cravings (no more Coca Cola for me!)
Here’s another positive: it’s safe for your Pets! CBD is used and is safe for our furry friends. Anyone with a bigger breed of dog knows how hard it is to see your best friend in pain with arthritis, and now you can help them with CBD.
So hopefully this bit of general knowledge has enlightened you to some of the magic that is CBD. Believe it or not, we’re just scratching the surface and in our next post we’ll dedicate some time to the various types of CBD and what they can be used for!
